The Story
Growing up on a 100-acre farm, animals were simply part of everyday life. Living among a pack of dogs felt completely natural. From a young age, I watched how animals communicate, bond, and solve problems together. That early experience sparked a lifelong passion for understanding animal behavior, especially in pack dynamics.
At 17, I started working in animal rescue, and I’ve spent the decades since observing how dogs think, react, and relate to both people and each other. In addition to my rescue work, I’ve spent decades studying breed-specific behavior by responsibly breeding and raising dogs from puppyhood through adulthood. My focus has been on breeds of all sizes often labeled as aggressive, working to understand the roots of their behavior and how environment, structure, and trust shape their responses. I hold a Pit Bull Specialist designation from the National Kennel Club, a recognition that reflects both my in-depth knowledge of the breeds and my dedication to advocating for misunderstood dogs through responsible education and compassionate care.
Dog psychology isn’t just a helpful tool we use; it’s essential for a dog’s mind-body wellness. Understanding how dogs think and feel helps us support their emotional health as much as their physical health. When we recognize the signs of stress, anxiety, or discomfort, we can intervene early with compassion and effective care. This holistic approach not only prevents behavioral problems but also strengthens the bond between dogs and their humans, creating happier, healthier lives for all involved.

I started Gilley’s Paws 4 Pals to turn my lifelong experience into something that helps others. My goal is simple—to help people build stronger, more respectful relationships with their dogs. This is the same concept we use in our "home away from home" setting for our boarding and daycare babies. When we understand our dogs better, we create harmony in the home, reduce stress, and unlock the full potential of the bond we share with them.
